ASUS Touchpad freezing [SOLVED]

Post by Esme93 »

Hello,

I have an issue with my ASUS Touchpad on my ASUS Vivobook Max X541NA. It seems to be acting up and I don't know whether it's a kernel bug or an ASUS BIOS bug. For instance, when I scroll or play videos in Firefox sometimes, my touchpad just freezes and type the command "sudo -r modprobe hid-multitouch && sudo modprobe hid-multitouch" to reinstall my touchpad.

Here is a full description of my PC:

I'm assuming you have enough RAM (system memory)? I don't see that in the list.

My system memory is: *-memory
description: System memory
physical id: 0
size: 3680MiB

EDIT: I've noticed that the only kernels where the touchpad doesn't freeze is 4.15.0-20, 4.15.0-22 and 4.15.0-23 (The kernel that I'm using). Kernels: 4.15.0-24, 4.15.0-29, 4.15.0-30, 4.15.0-32, 4.15.0-33, 4.15.0.34, 4.15.0-36 and 4.15.0-38 all have that freezing touchpad problem. I don't know if it's those kernels, how much memory or if it's the meltdown/spectre thing. I just updated my bios, so I know it's not that.

Another Edit: I just figured out the problem. Linux Mint 19 XFCE edition does better for my ASUS than the Cinnamon edition. I changed my touchpad from synaptics to libinput in the XFCE version and everything is working great. My apologizes for wasting everyone's time, but I can confirm this solved now.
