[SOLVED] Windows like panel

Hello, I like windows panel (when the open app stays highlighted on the same icon you clicked to open it) and I think this kind of panel helps my productivity.
I've seen that they have implement it on Solus and also can make your panel look like that on Ubuntu MATE by adding the dock item on your panel.
Is there any way to "install" this dock item on Linux mint MATE, and generally on any linux distro, and any other desktop environment??
Thanks in advance for any useful answer, you're awesome!

HI j1nz6,

Although I am not in Linux Mint Mate right now, you can usually add various new panels if you want like the excellent "cairo dock" from the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)". Usually with any panel including the default panel shows the application that is currently being used.

It would help to know more about your system setup like which version of Linux Mint Mate you are using. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

I'm currently not running LM, so I guess my question is kind of hypothetical.
But in general I ask if you can implement the exact way running apps look like on Solus (or Windows if you will), in any other distro and desktop environment.
And also when I say dock item, that's the name of the item when you choose the "add item" option on panel on Ubuntu MATE (and also Solus I think).
So I don't talk about Plank or Docky or any of those planks.

HI j1nz6,

Can you be more specific and provide sample screenshots?

I don't know how to be more specific than basically saying that I want to make my panel like Solus' or Windows' ....you can see how those panels work by looking at a video.... also on Ubuntu MATE the item that I'm describing is called Dock "an application dock for the MATE panel" as it says at it's description!

Hi j1nz6.

I think phd21 hit the nail on the head with the suggestion of cairo dock. Look here to see if appears to be what you're interested in: https://www.lifewire.com/setting-up-usi ... ck-4054034

If that looks like what you're after, then yes, you can add that to Mint once you've installed the OS.

If I understand what you're saying you'll have it in the upcoming Mint 19.1, Cinnamon edition, with the "modern" desktop layout.

YES! Thank you Joss! That's exactly what I was talking about! :D :D ...But in the article you shared I saw information only for the cinnamon desktop. Do we know if LM 19.1 MATE will implement it too? Or if we'll be able to install it on our own?? (Cinnamon is too heavy for me :( )

As far as I know it's Cinnamon specific. With Mate or Xfce you'll have to install a dock as others mentioned above.

I found out that there are some panel plugins; for XFCE there is DockBarX and for MATE there is mate-dock.
For anyone else had the same question with me! :D
