Help! HP LaserJet printing error codes

Post by jrdavis4 »

Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are still brand new to Linux and trying to learn as we go. Her computer has an HP LaserJet 2015d connected locally via USB. It prints via plug-and-play but every document comes out with error codes. I tried installing HPLIP and installed the printer via HPLIP Toolbox, and it does the exact same thing.

The source of the document doesn't seem to matter, PDF, text file, LibreOffice Writer file, etc. Every time it prints as blank page first, then a page with errors that seem to change a bit each time. Below are a couple of examples...

ERROR:
undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND:
get
STACK:
/FontFileType
/stream
/stream

or...

ERROR;
undefined
OFFENDING COMMAND:
PDFReader
STACK:
idiv
ObjectRegistryMaxLength
dup
-mark-
-mark-
-mark-
over and over.

Also, sometimes the job go in a "held" status and I have to manually release them. Any thoughts? Are HP LaserJets just not ideal with Linux?

Thanks in advance!
Justin

Bump.

If I broke any rules with this post or worded this improperly please let me know! I'm clueless what to do next and may just buy another printer and hope it's plug-and-play.

Thanks,
Justin

You haven't done anything wrong, it's just that you have described a problem I have not seen in more than 14 years of using HP Laserjets with Linux. I suspect I'm not the first person here seeing this for the first time.

That said...One assumes the printer shows in Cinnamon's printer utility (menu > administration > printers). Is there an icon for your p2015d in the active printers box?

If so, right click on the icon and right-click on properties. Please copy the contents of the "make and model" dialog box and paste into a reply. This will tell me what driver the system is using. Perhaps that will offer a clue to this strange behavior.
Hope is not a plan

I'm suspicious that it is a printer problem, not Linux, but I have no facts to back up that proposition. Have you tried a power refresh, i.e. turning everything off, and then back on again?
