Update Error

Post by Kefyr »

Hi all,

My Mint (Cinnamon 19 Tara) has been updating normally until recently. Although, I have no idea what could have been causing it, whenever it tries to fetch available updates via update manager, it repeatedly returns with this error:

Code: Select all

Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/dyatlov-igor/la-capitaine/ubuntu/dists/bionic/InRelease
Could not connect to ppa.launchpad.net:80 (91.189.95.83). - connect (111: Connection refused)
Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/hda-me/blastem/ubuntu/dists/bionic/InRelease
Unable to connect to ppa.launchpad.net:http:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/linrunner/tlp/ubuntu/dists/bionic/InRelease
Unable to connect to ppa.launchpad.net:http:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/noobslab/themes/ubuntu/dists/bionic/InRelease
Unable to connect to ppa.launchpad.net:http:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I've tried to change the sources but it repeatedly returns the same issue so I have no idea. My connection is fine and I've been using a VPN for some time now and haven't made any changes to it (it updated fine even before while using the VPN).

If anyone has any idea what could be going on with this, that would be wonderful

Thanks in advance :-)

Just to be sure, you tried changing the Mirrors in Software Sources & clicked 'Update the cache' after? You might try clicking 'Restore the default settings' if that doesn't work. I'm not sure if that launchpad.net can be safely removed or not, but someone will know or maybe they were just down for awhile.

Hmm, I can't find any such button. Maybe I'm just tired but I'll find out

Yeah I might try that. Thanks for the response :-)

Hello, Kefyr.

The only Launchpad PPA, mentioned in the error messages, which you had posted, that cannot work, is the one below for Linrunner:

Code: Select all

Unable to connect to ppa.launchpad.net:http:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/linrunner/tlp/ubuntu/dists/bionic/InRelease
The message mentions "bionic", i.e. Ubuntu 18.04, which Mint 19 is based on.
Yet, if you check the Linrunner PPA homepage on Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/~linrunner/+archive/ubuntu/ppa, then you will find out that the PPA only supports Ubuntu 18.10 Cosmic, no longer 18.04 Bionic.
Consequence: Disable this Linrunner PPA

All the other PPAs seem to be fine.

Maybe you experienced a temporary problem, because Launchpad had a problem at that time?

Code: Select all

Could not connect to ppa.launchpad.net:80 (91.189.95.83). - connect (111: Connection refused)
Provided the problem, which you had reported, still persists, please post the complete text output, which the following 2 terminal commands will display:

Code: Select all

inxi -Sr
(Note: it is capital S and lowercase r)

Code: Select all

apt update
Best regards,
Karl
