Startup Sound Volume

Post by MrGrimm » Mon Dec 31, 2018 1:20 pm

i have been meaning to ask for some time now what app would mint users recommend for opening and editing the startup sound file? i have everything dealing with volume set pretty much perfectly, except for the startup sound being way too loud. i know i can edit it and reduce it's volume, but i don't just want to start downloading editors. suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

open pavucontrol and in the first tab Playback you see there's a slider to control System Sounds it's probably all the way to your left. move it to 60% or whatever

sorry i'm not in cinnamon rightnow in xfce so not sure which sound settings are the right ones but pavucontrol should do the same

that just brings up a dialog that has a master volume for all system sounds just like when click on sound settings from the systray.

don't understand what you want. that's how you control the system sounds. if you want separate sound control for each sound you'll have to edit each sound and make it lower
if i set my sounds at 20% i barely hear the login sound so i keep it at about 80%

i was VERY specific in what i asked about, and that was what app(s) do peeps suggest for opening that particular sound file and lowering it's volume and then saving the edited file. the setting in mint are for all sound files as a group not the individual files.

You then know wrong. Use Effect -> Amplify with a negative value.
