Re: windowa PPT are not opening
While Powerpoint and other Office formats usually open in LibreOffice or other suites, there are serious compatibility problems with sophisticated documents, and saving the changes from the alternative software can badly bugger up a file. Generally, when I need to view or casually edit MS Office from Mint I use the online Office and usually save the file in free OneDrive storage while dealing with it - requires a Microsoft account:

I'd suggest trying it to see if it does enough for your purposes. I wouldn't try to build or deep edit anything complicated on the functionally limited online MS Office service. I dual boot MS Windows and a full Office suite for the rare times that's necessary. (Also be aware there are good Microsoft Office apps freely available on smartphones, both Apple and Android.)

TRUST BUT VERIFY any advice from anybody, including me. Mint/Ubuntu user since 10.04 LTS. LM20 64 bit XFCE (Dell 1520). Dual boot LM20 XFCE / Win7 (Lenovo desktop and Acer netbook). Testing LM21.1 Cinnamon and XFCE Live for new Lenovo desktop.

Hi jooke180,
+1 for using MS Office online.
You might try Google Docs online as well. There are also various online converters to convert MS Office files into open document files.
Make sure you have a current version of LibreOffice - recommend installing their PPA see link below.

convert .ppt to .opd openoffice format - Google Search

If you can save the PPT files into a slightly older version of MS Office like 2010, 2007, 2003, then they might show up better in LibreOffice.
There are other Office suites that work in Linux like WPS, Calligra, etc... which may work with the PPT file better.

If your computer has enough hardware resources, then you can install Virtualbox and a version of MS Windows in that along with any MS Windows software in that and run it while still in Linux Mint.
You can also install some versions of MS Office using the Linux Wine system, but not usually a newer version of MS Office.
