Printer troubleshooting - CUPS Service Stopped {SOLVED}

Post by petewil »

I am running 64-bit Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon edition on a Dell Latitude E6420. It is the only operating system on the machine. I have been experiencing problems maintaining communication with my Epson Stylus D120 printer. It had been working fine, but then started not responding to instructions to print unless I deleted it and re-installed it and now I can''t connect to it at all. The printer troubleshooting help dialogue box tells me that the CUPS print spooler does not appear to be working and to correct this I should "choose System->Administration->Services from the main menu and look for the 'cups' service". I cannot find this, the instructions do not appear to correspond to my display of the main menu. Any suggestions ?!

On my Mint 19.1 Mate system using Firefox

Code: Select all

http://127.0.0.1:631/
Will bring up the CUPS menu. You might try it and see if you can find anything. Sorry I don't have a specific fix. 127.0.0.1 is one of your internal home IP address.

Have you tried completely powercycling/rebooting your computer?

It always amazes me that this isn't the first thing that people try. Some people seem to think that all electronic equipment should work continuously for ever and ever and never need a power-cycle! :roll:

Be amazed! Not quite an eternity but ....

Code: Select all

brian@desktop:~$ uptime
20:11:39 up 197 days, 11:26, 14 users,  load average: 0.79, 0.97, 0.79
and no problems with CUPS.

Excellent! I once heard of a light bulb that's been running continuously for since 1901.

But still I'm sure you wouldn't rule out rebooting as a potential troubleshooting method?
