If I want to install on multiple computers a package say Multimedia Codecs, I have to download it each and everytime.
That will waste a lot of bandwidth on metered connections.
Also if in the unlikely case I have to format and reinstall this means again downloading the package.
So how do I go about it?
Is there no multiple DVDs like debian wherein I can have it offline?
Or any other way to expand the mint iso and recreate it?

Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
It's my understanding that you can copy thesagsaw wrote:So how do I go about it?
.deb
files from the /var/cache/apt/archives
directory on one computer, to the /var/cache/apt/archives
directory on another computer and install via the software manager (or otherwise) there.Joe
Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
See the release notes: https://linuxmint.com/rel_tessa_cinnamon.php, they actually contain important information such as how to install the codecs offline.

Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers

Was looking of a more elegant and DRY (dont repeat yourself) approach.
Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
Looking for some sort of a remaster iso option wherein I download all that I need on one computer, remaster the default iso in someway (and keep it less than 4.7gb) and then I can just install it on multiple computers.gm10 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:46 amSee the release notes: https://linuxmint.com/rel_tessa_cinnamon.php, they actually contain important information such as how to install the codecs offline.![]()
Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
That sounds like an awful lot of effort for a few files you can carry on an USB stick, but sure, that's possible, guides are readily available via your favourite search engine (include the term squashfs).sagsaw wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 12:01 pmLooking for some sort of a remaster iso option wherein I download all that I need on one computer, remaster the default iso in someway (and keep it less than 4.7gb) and then I can just install it on multiple computers.gm10 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 11:46 amSee the release notes: https://linuxmint.com/rel_tessa_cinnamon.php, they actually contain important information such as how to install the codecs offline.![]()
Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
True aware of squashfs n remastersys ... But u know i was looking if option is avlble in mint itself to remaster.
And just the xtremetuxraer game is 600mb of download ...
And a single 4.7gb iso would be a elegant way than the copy *.deb files everytime

Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
There is no such pre-configured option in Mint (or in any other distro that I'm aware of), it's not something the average user needs. But seems you're aware of how to do it so shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Installation of a downloaded package on multiple computers
Isn't it possible to mark all the deb packages you want to move, right-click on them and choose "Create Archive" and .iso as format? Or maybe I am being mistaken about what you intend to do.
