Arranging icons on the desktop [SOLVED]

Post by Pascal Illustrator »

Hello,
How can I arrange the icons on my desktop manually?
Now everything - except the trash bin - comes organized alphabetically on the left side, but it would be nice if I could do this manually too.
I can't find it.

Use your mouse to drag them where you want them by holding down the left button.
Same if you use the trackpad.

No that doesn't work. I can drag the icon, but when I release the left mouse button, the icons jump back to the original place.

Go to your desktop and right click the mouse.

Uncheck "Keep Aligned" and see if that gives your more flexibility.

I think it varies depending on which Mint version is used. See if this works for you:

Mint 19.1 Cinnamon 64bit.

Solution:
Right-click on empty space on your desktop.
Click on Customize from the context menu.
Click on the toggle to the right of Auto-arrange to disable it.
Now you can manually move desktop icons.

Yes, it's different depending on the versions.
We all are using the same distribution, that is, Linux Mint, but depending upon the version and the desktop environment things might be a little different. 😁
Your version is 18.3 and desktop environment is Cinnamon.
We can help others who don't have the same version or desktop environment as ourselves by running it in a Virtual Machine. 😇
So, do mention your version and desktop environment and we'll be able to help you everytime. 😀
More the info, more the merrier. 😊
