How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
How to add Applet "Cryptocoin" to panel. Acer laptop has Linux 18.3, and
it was listed in "add to Panel" listing, so no problem.
But in Linux 19.1, it's not listed in " Add to Panel", so how can I make that happen?
Went to CinnamomSpices , but don't understand insructions.
Is there a better step by step tutorial? Ive downloaded the file cryptocoin@guantanamoe.zip.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Just tried this.
1. Install "git"
2. From terminal:
3. From terminal:
4. Navigate to your Applets Menu, and it should be in the list now: ps... get rid of the zip file, you don't need it.
1. Install "git"
sudo apt install git
(this is why it likely didn't work for you, if you tried their instructions previously)2. From terminal:
cd ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
3. From terminal:
sudo git clone https://github.com/imDeprecated/cryptocoin-applet.git cryptocoin@guantanamoe
4. Navigate to your Applets Menu, and it should be in the list now: ps... get rid of the zip file, you don't need it.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Rich, apologies for letting this get lost in the shuffle. Did you ever figure it out?
According to your attached screenshot, you did not have an applets folder in ~/.local/share/cinnamon.
( It appears to have unpacked on your last attempt but in the wrong location )
If you haven't solved this already, in terminal, navigate to
Then create an applets folder, if it doesn't exist
Then re-run your clone operation
It should now show up when you go to the Applets app in the Menu like in my previous screenshot.

Trouble navigating to " ~/.local/share/cinnamom " See results in terminal.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Looking in File system, I find / root/usr/share/cinnamom/applets/ Has two Folders-...
That location is where the applets that you download/activate through the Mint Applets manager are installed. What you are trying to do is a user install.
Your /.local directory should have been in your /home/rich/ directory by installation default.
If your /.local directory does not exist, or, it is empty you can try the following:
1. In terminal, run
whoami
, it should return rich. If it does, then make the directories :mkdir -p ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
2.
cd ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
3. re-run the clone command again in terminal
sudo git clone https://github.com/imDeprecated/cryptocoin-applet.git cryptocoin@guantanamoe
If you do the above three steps, there should be no reason for it to not show up in the Menu -->Applets selection window.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Rich,
I have no idea what this is:
Are you saying this part of the response copied out of terminal when you ran the clone install?
I just re-ran it...this is the response you should have gotten if it was already properly installed: You have this line (the fatal line), as it appears you ran the clone operation two times in a row, and got the same response the second time. [I just don't know why it's spewing out that mile long user ID tag]
Can you please do the following:
1.
2.
3.
You should have something that looks similar to the tree below.
Can you also provide results of
If your applet was properly installed, it would show up in Applets: Once its there and showing, click on it once to highlight it, then click the "+" sign to add it to the panel.
It will show up in the panel, with its own configuration options available upon right-clicking it in the panel.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
A small number of applets are downloaded already. Only downloaded applets can be installede. The most number of applets, desklets and so on are ready for download, but neither downloaded and installed. You can deinstall applets - but they live downloaded for install later (again). A downloaded applet is present in the system bot not really instzalled in panel. An installed applet is not only present in the panel - but presented and active there.

This to to help clear the previews Post. The top of the post shows Panel List applet options.
The list comes "right click in the panel at the bottom of the Window" .
Then a small window opens , then I click " + Add to Panel".
Then the Panel list of options appear. Just need to Click your choice and
the Add button is available to select. And the applet appears in the Panel.
It seems the cryptocoin applet must some how be added to the Panel list.
How that done ?? On my Laptop with Linux 18.3, this cryptocoin applet was part of
Panel List, so no need to install, just click on it and click on add, then it appears in the panel
at the bottom of the window. And can be added to Startup Applications.
In my search couldn't find anything that would work with Linux 19.1.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Your tree structure appears to be wrong.
Please confirm in Nemo, that in your Home folder, navigating to .local folder shows share and cinnamon in the same folder. IF it does, please execute the following in terminal:
please copy and paste this text exactly, to your terminal
If all the above was true, then also check in the .local/share/cinnamon folder now, to confirm applets and cryptocoin@guantanamoe are in the same folder.
IF they are, then execute the line below in terminal:
please copy and paste this text exactly, to your terminal
I have no idea how your items got separated during the install, but you've got two sub-folders in /cinnamon that should be inside the /guantanamoe folder: .git and po.
So, copy/paste these two as well into terminal, one at a time, and execute:
please copy and paste this text exactly, to your terminal
If done correctly, you should now be able to select it; either the way you prefer, by editing your panel, or by going to Menu --> Applets as I've previously shown.
Before and after of what your tree structure should look like:
Please confirm in Nemo, that in your Home folder, navigating to .local folder shows share and cinnamon in the same folder. IF it does, please execute the following in terminal:
mv ~/.local/cinnamon ~/.local/share
please copy and paste this text exactly, to your terminal

If done correctly, you should now be able to select it; either the way you prefer, by editing your panel, or by going to Menu --> Applets as I've previously shown.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
You guys are making a massive meal of this....
Open Applets GUI (from menu or right click and add to panel).
Go to Download tab. Highlight and install cryptocoin. This will install the current version hosted on Cinnamon Spices.
Once installed go back to Manage tab. Highlight and add to panel.
Ignore the readme instructions, they will install an old version of the applet from the authors original github - the version on spices has had several bug-fixing updates since.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Not trying to make a big deal out of it. OP already had run the clone process and somehow the directory structure for that applet is all botched for it. Was trying to help sort that out so it would simply work, and not have dysfunctional remnants around the other folders.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Yeah, but the instructions on the read me are outdated in any case and will install an old version of the applet from outside of the Spices website along with a bunch of irrelevant git versioning info. - I've submitted a PR to amend them.
The OP was on the right lines with the zip file originally downloaded. Unzipping that into
But it's easier just to use the GUI the Cinnamon devs have provided to manage applet installation.
OP - I note you've decided to use
Please run
to fix before you do anything else.

~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
would have installed the current version of the applet - which has several translation updates and one bug-fix over the old version. But it's easier just to use the GUI the Cinnamon devs have provided to manage applet installation.
OP - I note you've decided to use
sudo
at a couple of points in this exercise when you didn't need to and weren't advised to. This will cause issues updating the applet for any future updates as some applet files will now be in root ownership. Please run
Code: Select all
sudo chown -Rc $USER:$USER $HOME

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
Rich,
Please do as Smurphos has suggested. 1) Run the command he posted to fix your potential files ownership issues. 2) Then, on your system, go to Menu --> Applets; click the Download tab, type crypto in the search box and it will show up. Select to install it. (re: the pictures Smurphos posted.)
Then go to the Manage tab, click once on cryptocoin to highlight it, and select the "+" button to add it to your panel.
In the future, I would suggest only downloading from built-in sources to Mint; ie, Software Manager, Applets, Synaptic.

Re: How to Load Applet on Linux 19.1
There is No Item in Linux 19.1 "MENU" that is named Applets??
I did run command to fix ownership issues.
Do I need to Download Applets to add to basic MENU?
Or is this Applets in another place?
