Using a tablet / 2 in 1 laptop with touchscreen?

Post by astrokamel » Sun Feb 24, 2019 12:59 pm

Hello, I'm not sure I qualify as a newbie, but I'm also not sure that I don't lol. I've got Linux Mint installed properly on my Dell Insipiron 11 I3168 2 in 1, but I have a few issues that I'm not sure how to solve. I figure surely these issues have been addressed in a collective fashion somewhere, but perhaps not... my searches are coming up with (for lack of a better term) sparse results.

Here are my system details:

Linux Mint 19.1, Cinnamon 64-bit

Getting Linux Mint working in "tablet mode" questions/comments
Comments
  • Keyboard gets disabled when rotating screen past ~185 degrees (hardware behavior, likely)
  • On-screen keyboard does not automatically open (accessibility setting found for this, could not get it working correctly)
  • Touchpad is still active when rotating screen to tablet orientation (no option found in touchpad settings for this)
  • The touchscreen works
  • The mouse stays visible while using the touchscreen
  • Tap/drag to scroll only works in some applications (notable: not firefox)
  • Long-tap to right click does not work (i found a setting in accessibility to enable but it doesn't seem to be quite what's needed since it also impacts touchpad/mouse operation)
  • iio-sensor-proxy is installed
  • running command-line utility "monitor-sensor" does produce an output when rotating
  • Could not find any display auto-rotation settings (expected to find in display)
Questions
  1. Is it possible to add a button to the task-bar to toggle the on-screen keyboard?
  2. Can I enable auto-rotation of the screen?
  3. Can I disable the touchpad when in "tablet mode"? If not, is it possible to add an icon to the task bar to toggle it via the touchscreen?
Thanks so much for any help!!!

Sorry for the late answer, but I just bought Dell p58f 7569 15 with i5 2 in 1. dual booting with 19.1 Cinnamon

So far I have found that tablet mode works with touchscreen, does NOT rotate, and both keyboard and trackpad are disabled.
The 15" widescreen is rather unwieldy as a tablet, anyway! But thought I'd try it once.
Games in tent mode are rather nice, but again, no way to do text entry, that I've found, yet.
