ELI5, please. How do I do this? What do I need to install in Mint, and what is a recommended SSH client for android?
For example, how would I use my android phone and SSH to (a) change to my ~/Downloads directory, and (b) do an 'ls -al' on the contents? That would get me started.

Thanks, I do have that app and use it for file access/transfers.
But I think my example with "ls" was not really the best. Let's say that, instead of that, I want to remotely log onto my Linux system and start the x11vnc server. What would I need to do to accomplish that?

Never mind. I just installed openssh-server in Mint and JuiceSSH on my device and good things have started to happen. So easy.
