i just loaded mint 19 on my acer aspire i3 desk top the proplem i have is linking it with my other desk top running windows on my wired network. i do not seem to have a network manager, reinstalled mint 19 no joy, when i used mint17 before it was dead easy i had no problems,

Install samba, it's in software manager.

i downloaded samba but no joy mint can not see windows computer but it sees my router and windows can not see mint.
on windows i i check to see if everything was open for file printer sharing which it is i think i am having a senior moment i have done it before years ago but grey matter letting me down

After walking away from the round room i came back and linux found printer and everything but when i print a test page it comes up with a menu asking for a password i use my linux password does not work .so where do i get or find this password

I suspect that it will be the password for the windows PC that you have your printer plugged into.

In that case you will need to provide more details, such as a screenshot where it is asked for the pwd. I assume, since you said nothing, that you can now see your windows PCs from your mint PC.

i can see computers on each computer i even transferred a file to windows which worked and back

Mint password doesn't work
No password on windows PC
What about trying no password and just leaving it blank?

Or failing all that - reinstalling the printer in mint?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas, hopefully someone else will have some suggestions.

EDIT - printer properties?

i reinstalled printer, windows computer sees linux computer but will not connect. linux does not see windows computer and can not file share either way so i am stuffed.

i turned of firewall and it picked up windows computer still need a password to print now windows can't see mint computers driving me nuts
