So I installed Linux Mint, went through the starting guide, checked my drivers... The Nouveau driver was selected but the Nvidia driver said recommended next to it so I selected that, then restarted. Then when I boot up again I get a message that it's running in software mode and Cinnamon is running without hardware acceleration.
If I go to system settings and display, the resolution is stuck at 800x600 and there are no others available.
What do I do here?

Re: Can't change resolution after selecting Nvidia driver
What says the nvidia server settings?
Which graphic card?
which monitor?
What tells xrandr?
How is the monitor connected?
Have you tried another cable?

Re: Can't change resolution after selecting Nvidia driver
Did you reboot after installing the driver?
After you reboot - you can change Nvidia driver setting by going to
if it's not there then do this.
Then in a terminal type
you should be able to set your video from there.
good luck.
After you reboot - you can change Nvidia driver setting by going to
Code: Select all
Menu/Administration/Nvidia X-Server Settings
Code: Select all
sudo apt insall nvidia-xconfig nvidia-settings
Code: Select all
sudo nvidia-settings
good luck.

Re: Can't change resolution after selecting Nvidia driver
I found the Nvidia settings, but now how do I change the resolution? I don't really know what to do here. I can add rules or make a new profile and add keys to it, but I don't really understand what that is.
Re: Can't change resolution after selecting Nvidia driver
So... I figured it out. After doing some more research I found out the driver doesn't initialize if Secure Boot is enabled. I'd read about Secure Boot before, but I thought this was something exclusive to Windows 8 machines. I decided to check anyways and sure enough, it was enabled. Disabled it, restarted, boom, working right away in the correct resolution. Stupid.
