Hi,

My settings have always been, and still are, that I don't want the computer or the display to go to sleep after inactivity.

My system has always respected these wishes, until recently.

Now:
- Lock screen doesn't work anymore, clicking Lock Screen does absolutely nothing, AND
- My display goes to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity (blank screen, but system is not locked)

I'm not aware of having made any changes in power management, and I wouldn't even know where to alter the behaviour of Lock Screen.

Settings in power management:
- never put computer to sleep,
- never put display to sleep

Screensaver disabled (I actually uninstalled screensaver so that it definitely wouldn't interfere)

As far as I can tell, the settings in dconf editor are the same as those in power management.

I'm so noob that I don't even know what kind of information to provide to you. Where do I start looking?

Let me guess, that's when your troubles started ?

Mate-screensaver (description= Mate screensaver and locker)
So to start with put it back.

And for future it is "generally" best not to uninstall things that came with the original installation package. Yes there are of course exceptions to every rule.

It's probably best to ask the forum before attempting to uninstall a package that's included with the Mint operating system. Some have a lot of dependencies and need to be removed in a specific way. Others should not be removed at all, like python.

Actually not, it was the other way around, first the troubles started, then I tried a few things including uninstalling the screensaver.
Anyway, putting the screensaver back did not solve the problem.
What did solve the problem was uninstalling power management as well (another big no-no, i guess), and then reinstalling the screensaver and power management.

Thanks for your input! I didn't know screen locking is part of the screensaver, so I learned that, thanks.
