Where is newest version 19.2?

Post by speedingcheetah »

I was under the understanding that Mint released new version every 6 months.
19.1 came out December 19, 2018. And 19.0, 6 months before that.

It is now July 1, 2019 6 months ~2 weeks ....and I don't see ANYTHING in regards to 19.2, not even a beta.

I got Mint 19.1 running on my secondary systems, early last month. They are just my DVR, home media and file server, and Unifi Network controller and camera systems.

I saw no point in making the hard switch from Windows to Linux on my main desktop and laptop until 19.2 came out, as I had thought the release was only a couple weeks away.

Am I blind and just not finding the thread or pages with info on the status of new releases??
The search here will not allow "19.2" as a search term.
Ubuntu and other distros I have tried have easy to find pages in that regards.

That rambling betanews article is worthless.

Do a g-word on
[mint 19.2 release date]
and in big letters it returns
"19 December 2018".
But that's wrong. Good old g-word!

Anyway, the associated wiki article says "N/A".

It's indeed unusually late. But: "it's ready when it's ready".

There have been some new translation strings on Launchpad lately, so there is activity.

Furthermore: we're all human, life has its ups and downs. C'est la vie.... I'm confident that the Mint dev team is professional enough to overcome this.

That is not a announcement for 19.2 or a beta.
That is also 3 months old....
And is a 3rd party article, ie, not from Mint.

Mint 19.2 is still overdue and I do not see any real useful official word on its status, even in the last 2 month old Mint Blog post.

The newest blog post will probably land in the next few days. I'm willing to be there'll be mention of 19.2 there.

I see from one of there blog posts, the team supposedly got depressed, bored, having issue with their professional lives....etc...bla bla.
Then they got a crap ton of love and also money from community support.....
And they still having issues?

mmm...I like Mint, it just works, (most of the time, SAMBA a real pain as of late)....but the whole main draw of Linux is active support, stability, reliability and updates. Mint was top of the list, even back when I was in my very first programing class in college and was forced to use Fedora 4 in class.
All the other distros have stable on time releases. Mint seems to be struggling to keep up. Hope they manage to recover. In the mean time, makes me want to look at other distros more seriously. Manjaro (Arch based) seems to be the next best option, but the software I wish to run, there is no Arch based version for it. Ubuntu based is what I really need to stick with....

The beta is imminent, as is the next blog post with the announcement. I'm not sure I understand holding off on installing 19.1 because you're waiting for 19.2 though: The difference is basically just the installation of a few updates more on 19.1 that are already included with the 19.2 installation medium, so unless you're on a metered connection I see no reason to wait.

They've always released when it's ready and the summer 'deadline' is the most likely to slip - Clem seems very keen to get stable releases out for Christmas for the winter releases.

Anyway Cinnamon 4.2 is as of yesterday released to Arch, and judging from previous cycles a Mint 19.2 beta will probably follow that release in a week or two once initial bugs reported by Arch users are cleared up.
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

this release is Not available in the Testing Repository, as yet.
:?
thus it may be another few weeks away. .. ..
- - the Team.LinuxMint would typically release another New Version,
around 6 - 8 week after the upstream Ubuntu goes live.

that was for Ubuntu 19.04, which was back in April.

Monthly News – June 2019:
https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3766
now tells, of the LM19.2 story.

I'm not in a hurry, and I bought one of the new ASUS TUF Gaming laptops...
18.3 will not install on it, hardware issues.... sigh....

19.1 will, but I'm not a fan of 19.1 yet...... most likely will wait for 19.3 like I did with 18.3
