[SOLVED] Manual update from Tessa to Tina messed up APT cache

Post by aidancuckoo » Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:41 am

Now I got the manual update command from another post, but I can't seem to find it. I am writing this from my Mac since I am afraid to brick my Mint system, which is running Linux Mint 19.1 Tessa 64-bit Cinnamon edition(or at least it did) and I manual updated and I want to fix it. How can I fix it?

I'm afraid this'll need a bit more details, both regarding what you did and what problem you are experiencing now. ;)

Okay, gm10! I have close to 4 gigs of RAM, and 200 gigs of storage for Linux. Does that help?

aidancuckoo, what gm10 is asking for are details of what symptoms is your Mint box exhibiting and what steps did you take to get into this situation.

Enter

Code: Select all

inxi -r
in a terminal and post the results in a CODE box (the </> button) in your reply.
I feel more like I do than I did when I got here.

Here are the results. I am in New Zealand so I used the NZ repos.

Code: Select all

  Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list
1: deb http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ bionic main restricted universe multiverse

I also found the place whare the command was. I ran

Code: Select all

sudo sed -E -i 's/ (tessa) / tina /' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-*.list
on the Linux computer(where I'm typing this from). Is it fine or did I do it incorrectly? I might have just updated the kernel.viewtopic.php?f=143&t=298912&p=1667911& ... a#p1667911

Yeah, no, whatever made you add those wasn't a good idea. Let's get rid of that:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list

Yes, that was a command I originally posted but you failed at copy & pasting it or intentionally modified for no reason? Anyway, you do not appear to have run it for you are still on Tessa.

With removing those unnecessary repository definitions, yes. With anything else - no idea, you never even explained your problem. ;)

How to remove the definitions? Also, I found the update thingy, so shall I start?
