Menu still shows deleted items ?

Post by espr3ss0 » Sat Aug 17, 2019 1:19 pm

I was messing around with the applications folder, couldn't understand why there are so many duplicates of Krita until it was too late. I owned them as current user and then from terminal rm'd them but for some reason are showing in the menu when they didn't even in the first place and they definitely don;t exist. I've even uninstalled Krita.

Any suggestions ?

have you tried logging out and back in?

I cannot be more specific because we don't even know your desktop environment. ;) Also did you only mess around with the files or also use the menu editor?

Sorry to bump my post but I should add, the files I'm seeing are using search for krita so I guess are showing files not desktop links but the files don't exist.

I don't understand what you are saying here.

Also you still didn't explain what you did exactly. So I'll just throw out a generic "check these folders":

Code: Select all

/usr/share/applications
~/.local/share/applications
~/.config/menus/
~/.config/menus/applications-merged/

The "delete" process, depending on what you used, does not always eliminate everything. Sometimes you need to use the "purge" option to remove all the remnants (i.e., config files, menu entries).
I feel more like I do than I did when I got here.

These following terminal commands may be of help to you, just copy and paste them into your terminal one at a time...DAMIEN

Code: Select all

sudo apt autoremove --purge

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep '^rc' | awk '{print $2}' | sudo xargs dpkg --purge

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep '^rc' | awk '{print $2}' | xargs sudo apt-get purge
Then reboot and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I think I know what the problem is, I need to clear the menu search history because it's displaying recent looked at files. Also maybe disable this and only show installed apps in search ?
