After update 19.2, upd.manager keeps prompting Kernel 4.15.0-54

Post by RemonK » Tue Aug 20, 2019 7:30 pm

Last weekend i upgraded from Mint 19.1 to 19.2. But after the first boot the update manager prompted Kernel 4.15.0-54 as an update?
Is there something wrong with -58 so that i have to fall back to -54? Or why would he prompt me -54 as an update?

141 views and none of the viewers can tell me what to do? Or why an older kernel shows up as an update option?

guess i'd just try installing it and see what happens next. if it breaks something, just reinstall newer kernel or revert using timeshift. could also right click on it and tell it to not show that anymore.

apt update will tell you if there needs upgrading. dpkg --list | grep linux-image
we ask for help here, but we all know most of the fixings is done on your own. i for one would have taken the "risk" and upgraded it

your solution is pretty good

Click on "Pakketten" and see what it actually wants to upgrade. Also check your blacklist.
Tune up your LM 19.x: ppa:gm10/linuxmint-tools

I don't get it with the version numbers. Looked at the list and also see 5.0.x versions. Seems newer than what is installed now?
The system is running fine now so i let it be for what it is.

Thanx

Yes, the 5. series Kernels are newer.

These are supplied for those people that have the very new 'bleeding edge' hardware that may be unsupported or problematic with the official supported Kernel.

Likewise, older Kernels are also supplied, for old hardware that may not be able to use the current supported Kernel also.

My system is about 3 years old now, is that why -54 is offered to me? I thought 3 years is not that old..

Sorry unable to answer that. You are quite correct, you should be on 4.15.0-58 - as that is the current supported Kernel.

I do not understand why you are only offered 0-54?

Perhaps you need to remove the 'Solved' from this post, until someone more experienced can advise.
