Hi wannabelinuxguy,

You are welcome...

Fortunately, new DVD/CD writer burners are reasonably priced around $20us-30us and even Blu-Ray DVD burners are reasonably priced now as well. I have an older USB DVD burner that works well in Linux. I recommend getting one with "m-disc" capability.
Thanks for that tip. I'll get one with m-disc capability.

I am a newbie which is why I'm posting here ...
There is ONE piece of software I use with W7, a utility, that I really love and use a lot.
I am wondering if something like it might be available for Linux Mint.

It is a Macro utility. For example if I want to type in my address I can set it to type my entire address every time I type the letters "addr."
Autokey is what I use for this, don't matter if you are typing inside a document, the HEX editor, whatever, if I type the word DATE in all upper case, the result is 2019-07 for today's date.

works inside browsers also. it reads the keyboard..

I also have 'ADR' setup as my home Address.
I noticed real fast that using lowercase to trigger that macro is a major PITA.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that "adr" would be triggered by many words so you make it all caps?
What I do with my Windows macro utility is write it out "addr." so with the period at the end it is less likely to be triggered. I use a period at the end of almost all my macro triggers that way.

you are correct, I just never bothered to expand on the macro name, I like to keep them as short as possible as long as they are unique. and 'ADR' uppercase is extremely unique, at least for me.

I did the same for date/time 'DATE' triggers my macro for current date/time.

it is neat that both of the macro names are all typed with the left hand, so the right hand is used to force the CapsLock
