Under "Edit" do "Fix Broken Packages". There used to be more there, but maybe they merged them all into just one now.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

Spearmint12.

Ah!

See what you mean. Yes I installed 2 packages as recommended.

Nothing seems to have changed though. Will reboot and see what it's like then

Well. Something drastic just happened.

Have to use my windohs laptop now. yeah! Swearing I know!!!

After running the latest suggestion, the laptop shut down in the huff halfway through!

I restarted it and wonders of wonders, it refuses to play.

I have a mouse cursor on the screen and nothing else.

I'll reload Tara from a CD now and see if I can recover.

Thanks for the help. I'll go through the steps again when/if it recovers.

Until tomorrow I think.

Update.

I left the Linux laptop running while I went and fetched an external CD/dvd drive to reload Tara.. Came back and Tara had loaded

Gremlins maybe?

Now revisiting the next suggestion.

Sounds like you're good then, you should be able to apply the remaining updates now after refreshing or restarting Update Manager.
Tune up your LM 19.x: ppa:gm10/linuxmint-tools

gm10.

After the dramatics!!!! I went back a couple of hours and loaded a "timeshift" backup.
Then went to the beginning of the thread and applied, in order of suggestion, the "fixes" using the terminal.

After each "fix", I made another "timeshift' backup and did a reboot. Eventually, after finishing the "fixes/timeshifts/reboots, the Update Manager window when opened, showed the "OK" and "HELP" buttons, which were missing from the window before.

"Refresh" button can now be selected and this time I get < 1 update available > (which I'll leave for tomorrow.)

So, now going off line, tea time in my time zone.

Thanks to everyone who jumped in with help. it's much appreciated.

73's and 88's to all.

Re- Update Manager Won/t Update

Post by Revicam » Sun Oct 06, 2019 9:11 pm

I opened "Tara" this morning and ran a "Timeshift" backup.

Then opened the Update Manager. Refreshed and installed the single update available.
Ran Package Manager.

Ran another "Timeshift", then rebooted.

Looks like I'm back on the road.

Thanks again to everyone.

Anyone know how I can, or maybe someone else will, mark this thread as "Solved"?

Glad you finally got it sorted.

Only you (or a Mod/Admin) can mark it solved.
You do that by editing (the pencil icon) your original post heading to add the word SOLVED to it.

Yes. It was down to people like yourself, who freely give their time and advice, to help "strangers in the night".

Burst into song? :D :D

Thanks again.
