[SOLVED] Can't Get USB Wi-Fi Adaptor to work

Post by TGPB »

I can't figure out how to get the Linux drivers to install (CD) so that I can get my USB Wi-Fi adaptor working on my 19.2 64-bit Xfce laptop. I was hoping the new 19.2 would have the drivers. It is a Techkey AC-1200 Wi-Fi adaptor. I have tried plugging the adaptor in different USB ports.

Edit: Ignore this & do as catweazel says below.

I found this on a Ubuntu forum if you want to try it. Run each command in terminal one at a time, then reboot:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential git
git clone https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2BU_WiF ... 2-5044.git
cd rtl88x2BU_WiFi_linux_v5.2.4.4_25643.20171212_COEX20171012-5044
VER=$(cat ./version)
sudo rsync -rvhP ./ /usr/src/rtl88x2bu-${VER}
sudo dkms add -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo dkms build -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo dkms install -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo modprobe 88x2bu

You really ought to check things before you post them. Those instructions are for an older version that doesn't support the current kernels.

The OP should use: https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2BU_WiF ... 80427-5959

I saw that too, but to me it looked similar to the other. Thanks for the correction. :wink:

Not quite sure what to do with all the info on that page. I can understand sleeper12's instructions (even though they were for wrong kernel).

That one works fine on 4.15 kernels and at this point I am not worried about if it works on 5.0 as it will be EOL in about 3 months

Unless I'm wrong again, I'd assume you do this:

cd rtl88x2BU_WiFi_linux_v5.3.1_27678.20180430_COEX20180427-5959
VER=$(sed -n 's/\PACKAGE_VERSION="\(.*\)"/\1/p' dkms.conf)
sudo rsync -rvhP ./ /usr/src/rtl88x2bu-${VER}
sudo dkms add -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo dkms build -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo dkms install -m rtl88x2bu -v ${VER}
sudo modprobe 88x2bu

Hi JeremyB.
Thank you very much for the instructions.
I did all the steps without warning messages but after reboot I still can't see the device in the network connections.
Can you help me?
Thank you again.

Hi.
Thank you for your attention. I used the command with success but after reboot, the device did not appear. I tested the device on Windows 10 only to know if the device works correctly and yes, works.
If you have any other idea I will thank you because I want to continue using the Linux Mint.
In time, should I install any other device or network manager to select and enable the usb device?
Thank you.
Mauro
