Installed xmms, but how to start the app?

Post by ron_jeremy »

I followed the steps here to install xmms:

No problem adding the repositories:

deb http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~knuta/xmms/jaunty ./
deb-src http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~knuta/xmms/jaunty ./

No problem with the following:

aptitude install fakeroot
apt-get build-dep xmms
apt-get -b source xmms

dpkg -i xmms_1.2.11-1_i386.deb

However, I can't figure out how to start the program because it's not in the Menu list. I noticed my home folder has now been bombarded with xmms related stuff but I have double clicked pretty much every file in there to no avail.

Any suggestions?

I also had some problems with xmms. Not only menu problems but also sound problems. I decided to move to Audacious, which works well and looks just like xmms.

If the only problem is that it is not in the menu, then you can manually add it by right-clicking the menu and choosing "Edit menu".

*EDIT*

I just read carefully the web page tutorial you followed.
Did you notice:
Known Issues
The package does not create an entry in the menu in Gnome. This will be fixed as soon as I have time to look into it (but don't hold your breath).
