[SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
Tonight I saw that the official release for 19.3 is available.
I also read that the upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3 is a simple install.
I'd like to know how to do this without doing a fresh install from an ISO.?
I also read that the downloadable ? has a install package?
I am currently running Linux mint 19.2 Cinnamon

you can perform an Clean Installation of the new LM19.3,
or you can wait for the LinuxMint Update Manager to offer the actual upgrade itself.

The article in which you have read this, actually should state that the upgrade WILL be a simple install. I suppose they have copy/pasted from a previous article. Usually it takes few days after the official announce until the upgrade becomes available in the Update Manager.hartstephen wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 10:07 pmI also read that the upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3 is a simple install.

Re: Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2
ah well,
as I am already running 19.3 Cinnamon and have a lot of heart and soul invested in it,
I will just wait for the update manager to feed me what is needed to achieve the LTS version.
what I have now, is running so syrupy smooth, why start all over?

Hi, hartstephen.
nothing is official and nothing is officially available.
So, please, wait for the Mint developer team to finish all steps required to make the Mint 19.3 ISO image files available to the public.
So, please, wait for the Mint developer team to finish all steps required to make the in-place upgrade path to Mint 19.3 available in the Mint 19.x Update Manager.
So, please, wait for Clem to publish the official announcements:

Re: Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
I just have one wish for Christmas: Please fix the disable touchpad while typing, since once again I lost my entire post as I brushed the touchpad, and it wiped the post. I have to turn off the touchpad if I am doing any typing at all. But that being said, here are my first impressions:
Boots a little faster, fonts seem a bit crisper on the screen. Wifi picked up much faster, under 19.2 it would take 5-8 seconds after desktop for the wifi to connect. This time it was 2-3 seconds. I am happy. The update was FAST, really fast, I don't think it took more than 2 minutes to download, and install. Just rebooted and here it is. Now I did an update of all software before I did the update so I don't know if that had something to do with it. Once more Mint just hit homerun. As always the Mint team does a great job with the software.
I'll be playing with it more over the next few days, so I will have more of an impression. I am home sick today so I just lucked out that I discovered 19.3 was out. Great Work Mint Team, keep it up!

If that happens again, try Ctrl+z.

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Re: Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
Have you tried the usual command in such cases, i.e.
sudo update-grub

Re: Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
I just did the upgrade to 19.3 on one machine.
Now my mintmenu has 2 instances of "Accessories" and "System Tools". The menu editor only sees one. Also, my volume control icon got really huge
eta: it happens wherever I have a custom launcher.. as soon as I remove it and hit reload the category doubling goes away

Re: Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
Yes. no change.
any other way to upgrade the grub system.?
EDIT: It turns out the Grub theme isn’t installed by default. You have to run
sudo apt install grub2-theme-mint-2k
to install it.
Re: [SOLVED] Linux mint 19.3 install from 19.2 (in-place upgrade)
Actually installing grub2-theme-mint-2k should only be necessary in this special case:

If the grub2 theme looks too small in your HiDPI monitor, install the "grub2-theme-mint-2k" package.
