Enable Flash in Firefox? Resolved.
Hi, all
A very simple question- how do I get Firefox to allow flash video to play?
It used to work fine, but now it won't. In preferences, it says, "ask to activate", but it doesn't ask. I just get the message (in the BBC website) Sorry, you need Flash to play this-enable it in your browser or download it here.
I've checked that flash is installed and up to date.
I've also searched thoroughly in preferences, but I can't find a way to make it work.
Regards
D

Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
Can you post the url to the video that gives you that message? I went to BBC, but I don't see flash videos.

I just click on a video there & it plays, no mention of flash. They seem to be html videos.

Hi all
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply.
The URL is https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50868769
I can't see any option to activate flash for this video at all.

Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
I am using Opera.
I get this screen when I click on the BBC video. After I click Allow the video does not automatically start, but does start when I click on the Play icon again/
When the video starts to play, I then get this warning message.
Clicking on the offered page gets me to this URL.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/ques ... sues/flash
When I re-click on the offered list of Linux Browsers from this URL I am taken to this page..
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/ques ... rowsers-os
This is very old (Ubuntu 11 !!) & Opera is listed, but I am unsure exactly what the BBC are doing with Flash now..

Can you disable your popup / adblockers
Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
I get "This content is not available in your location." notice too.
Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
For the avoidance of confusion, I believe that within the UK it's possible to access bbc.co.uk . From outside the UK you get directed to bbc.com.
The content is different.
I'm in the UK and can access the embedded videos, they default to HTML5, and don't run successfully on my laptop due to hardware limitations.

Hello, David1293.
I think in order to give more helpful answers to you it will be necessary to let us know a few more details on your Mint system and on your Firefox first.
Please, open a terminal window. Make it fullscreen in order to avoid chopped off lines.
Execute the command
Mark the complete output which the command will display and paste it into your next reply.

Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
This is in chromium (and I'm in the UK):
See the jigsaw piece to the right in the url bar. Click it and 'manage'. You can turn flash on and it will play. I did get a warning it would stop working in 2020 as flash would not be supported. Does firefox have anything similar?Homebrew i5-8400+GTX1080 Cinnamon 19.0, 3 x Thinkpad T430 Cinnamon 19.0, i7-3632 , i5-3320, i5-3210, Thinkpad T60 19.0 Mate

Hi
Many thanks for the replies.
With the inxi command, I get:
I guess I'll have to hope that the BBC converts old videos to HTML, but I doubt it.
Clicking on the jigsaw piece just takes me to settings, but there is no option to enable flash.

D

Firefox is version 71.

Re: Enable Flash in Firefox?
Hi, Dave1293.
This is a perfectly up-to-date environment. Firefox 71 is the current version as well.
There is nothing which you can do or should to with respect to Flash on Firefox 71.
Flash on Firefox 71 can only be enabled on-demand, everytime when it is needed.
As a consequence, I cannot tell why the BBC site tells you what it tells you.

Karl

Hi all
Thanks for the replies.
I'll mark this as resolved, as I see no point in wasting people's time when Flash is about to be discontinued.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
