Lenovo T430s

Post by Stob »

OK, I got the laptop, I downloaded Etcher and made the bootable USB. This has Win 10Pro on it. I cannot get to the bios to boot off the USB. I've been searching but have not found anything that works. Any suggestions?

I have tried F1, F12, Enter. Not all at the same time but during boot when the first graphic appears. No luck.

Not used a T430s, but I have t420 and pressing enter will get me to BIOS, and it doesn't seem too fussy about the "timing of the button pressing.
Basically very shortly after pressing the power button I will press enter.
Let us know ...OK
EDIT; not sure about win 10 you may have to make sure it is completely shut down, IE disable fast startup, because under normal circumstances win 10 is NOT actually shut down.

I have tried pressing enter right after power, before power holding it down, pressing it repeatedly, etc. Boots right into windows. It's like the keyboard is disabled until windows boots.

The button that opens the boot menu is F-12 key. But as mentioned before win 10 dose not shut down completely it only hibernates Try hitting reboot and then hit the f12 key when the lenovo screen appears.

I'm in! Let me say what happened for others. First, the suggestion by rickNS was the ticket to get into the bios. With the help of my dear wife who has computer background, she found the boot setting on this Win10 was Legancy, not UEFI. Once I could boot, we found the boot setting could be changed form "Legacy" first, to "UEFI" first. Then after restart, the F12 gave me the boot options, which I chose the USB I loaded Mint on.

So while I've been typing this before I forgot something, I have loaded Mint and wiped Win10!

About 24 hours into Mint and so far not a single hitch. I've been setting up my bookmarks, mail, etc. Thanks to all that helped me.
