cut n paste

Post by sevenmpd »

Good Afternoon
Very new to linux, having plenty of time on my hands due to 12 wks lockdown I thought I would have a look at 'linux' I installed virtualbox on my win 10 laptop along with 3 guests Linux Mint, Makulu lindoz and Ubuntu all seemed fine until I installed virtualbox update then things went to pot so I deleted everything and started again this time around I find that I cannot cut n paste between host and guest on linux mint only the other two are OK. I have followed guidlines on the web but to no avail would appreciate suggestions please

I suggest you quit playing with Virtual Box and actually Install something.

Virtual Machines are simply a rough approximation of the real thing.
there are may guides to help you install... First make sure your Personal Data is properly backed-up off of your machine, AND be sure you are able to Reinstall your Windows... you will probably want it again for the numerous things you can't do with any Linux...

PS: Ubuntu has a much better installer than Linux Mint.

No, it hasn't. It's exactly the same ubiquity; only the theming differs.

I guess you have not used both in the last few months. available Options for selecting Swap, etc. make a world of difference

Install Guest Additions on your guest will allow you to copy and paste in both directions

Are you talking about the ubiquity in Ubuntu 18.04.x, which is the package base for Mint 19.x, or are you comparing apples to oranges?

If you are using Vbox 6.1.x, the Linux guest additions shipped with 6.1.4 and 6.1.6 both have bugs. Guest additions version 6.1.4 break the shared clipboard. Guest additions 6.1.6 breaks display scaling. Guest additions version 6.1.2 still work fine in the later Vbox versions.
