the reason that you can't install your drivers is because Mint (and Linux in general) uses a different way of installing than Windows does, so you can't use install-files for Windows and install them on Mint. (There are exceptions for games and other applications, but that won't help you with your drivers)

If you can tell us what type of modem/router etc. you use for your internet-connection we might help you a bit more getting on the internet

I use a Wireless Satellite USB for my internet connection.

I had the CD ready to install drivers in LinuxMint, but it wasn't necessary.
The system recognised my modem and installed drivers with just a couple of mouse clicks from me.
Very easy install.

There is a list somewhere of Modems, Routers and Drivers that are recognised by Ubuntu/Linux.
Most are recognised, or you can find directions on How-to fix the problem.
