Hi! I need intel-media-va-driver-non-free for new Shadow (Blade) client. Theres nothing in software manager and
sudo apt install intel-media-va-driver-non-free
is unable to find package. All I could find is this https://github.com/intel/media-driver
I tried following the building instructions but all I did is a mess in my files.
I also looked for a deb package but all I could find was for ubuntu 19 and above.

Can intel-media-va-driver-non-free be even installed on Mint 19.3?

Hello,

Can you please try this Deb package, to see if it installs:
https://debian.pkgs.org/10/debian-nonfr ... 4.deb.html

That package does not exist in Ubuntu 18.04

Va-api vidéo acceleration is provided by the package va-driver-all for amd and Intel cards.

Check the status of va-api with the command:

Code: Select all

That's as good as it gets for this version of Mint. You have all the video acceleration you can get, which will work for most codecs listed above.

The nonfree driver you cited is only for newer 8th generation intel graphics and above, essentially anything that has "lake" in the name. It adds some extra functionality but is not essential for GPU video acceleration.

If you MUST have that functionality, install Mint 20 beta.

Did a quick search of the shadow.tech sie and there's no mention of the package in the OP I can see. Under minimum requirements, though, they do recommend libva-glx2

This package has been suggested on shadow's discord for alpha and beta clients which are apparently quite different than official/stable client.

Thanks everyone for help!

Does your package run?

This is shadow the streaming game client from Europe right?

It's packages as appimage so it should be fine. If it runs leave it alone.

Video decode/encode acceleration is a big deal for low end hardware. If you are running a multi core ryzen and modern gpu, you don't need it.

Well I am able to start alpha and beta clients but they randomly crash. It is so random no ones been able to fix it and it happens for plenty of people. The best bet is to install intel-media-va-driver-non-free instead of i965-va-driver (I might be wrong with this one).

Yes shadow is a PC cloud streaming service in EU and US.

As mentioned above I need it to use more advanced clients. I think I'll give a try to Mint 20.
