How to enable fingerprint reader enrollment on XPS 9500

Post by duderuud »

Hi all,

I am trying to get the fingerprint reader working on my new XPS 9500.

First I added the Dell repos:

Code: Select all

deb http://dell.archive.canonical.com/updates/ focal-dell public
deb http://dell.archive.canonical.com/updates/ focal-oem public
deb http://dell.archive.canonical.com/updates/ focal-somerville public
deb http://dell.archive.canonical.com/updates/ focal-somerville-melisa public
And installed the proper drivers:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install oem-somerville-melisa-meta libfprint-2-tod1-goodix oem-somerville-meta tlp-config -y
That works, the driver is being loaded:

Code: Select all

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 27c6:533c Shenzhen Goodix Technology Co.,Ltd. VMware Virtual USB Hub
But how can I use the CLI or a GUI to enroll a fingerprint and add that option to the login screen?

PS: It works fine in Ubuntu 20.04
