[Solved] Enable auto login

Post by Pippin »

Hi,

Installed a Mint 20 Cinnamon for a friend using login password.
Only one account (admin).
Afterwards he wants to switch to auto login but doesn't work.
He fills his account in the field, reboots and the password is still being asked for and needed to login.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

It should look like this with his username

Code: Select all

[Seat:*]
autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=lance
autologin-user-timeout=0
lance@LM:~$ id

It already has the same content you posted except username.
It still asks for password though.

Will search some more, suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

I'm puzzled here. With autologin there should be nothing to "fill in his account field" unlees you mean fill in the password. Is there more than one account? Post the output of:

Code: Select all

getent passwd {1000..60000}

There is only one account.

Code: Select all

~$ getent {1000..60000}
theo:x:1000:1000:Theo,,,:/home/theo:/bin/bash

With autologin there should be nothing to "fill in his account field"
The first time the username needed to be filled in, in the Automatic Login - Username* field.

Solved :)

I used capital T for his name, it should be small t.

Thanks for your help, getent lead to my thinking.

Just a remark,

It should be more clear that when a Username starts with a capital character one should fill in the Username in Automatic Login - Username* field with a small character.

In my view this is a fault which should be corrected.

Hmm, ok..... checked that in virtualbox, I overlooked that during install.
Still, I would think that a username starting with capital is quite common and should be possible.
And it does not hint in the Login Window settings like during install.

Thanks.
