BUG Report: Linux Mint 19.3 and 20 XFCE - NVIDIA Driver Makes Gimp, Kdenlive, and VLC Font Too Small.

Post by gregoryshock »

Everything on the Linux Mint 20 XFCE Looks fine to me. However for some strange reason the VLC Players fonts are too small. Since I haven't added any themes. The themes your looking at is the themes that came with the system. In the first picture you can see that the Libre Office Writer looks fine. VLC everything is too small. I did play around with the themes and nothing changed.

I will be back later with more system details. In the mean time you can give me some suggestions, that would be helpful. Thanks.

VLC is written in Qt so it doesn't natively follow your personal settings in GTK. If you type qt into the Mint menu, Qt5 Settings will be displayed. Set the default font size there.
It's pronounced kad-eye-cha, not kada-itcha.

I'm going to try that if I can see it!

Are there Qt settings in Xfce? If so, you would have to experiment around there.

By the way, a nice window decoration - which one is it?

In MATE it's in the Control Center or Menu Preferences.

On my old 18.3 Xfce system, there's no QT tool installed by default. I do have Qt4-qtconfig available to download though.

On your Mint 20 system, I would search in the Software Manager for "qtconfig" and install and run whatever applies, which I'm guessing might be Qt5-qtconfig.

After playing around with Qt5 configuration. It did nothing to fix gimp. It only fixed the top part of VLC.

Indeed. I just checked and the focal repos don't have qt4-qtconfig, and there's no such thing as qt5-qtconfig it would seem.

I tested this Mint 20 Xfce in virtual box. My theory is that some how my Nividia is what messed this up. Which means if I can't get this fixed then I will not be running Linux Mint 20 on this machine.

I'm currently installing kdenlive to see how it looks.

I might be able to live without VLC. But if this is messing up Gimp and VLC and KdenLive, then that is a deal breaker. Because that means it's making qt applications useless.

Just like on Mint 19, it's qt5ct (which was installed on my test VM as part of the initial build). Looks like qt4 has been deprecated.

I got something here. If this is correct then I don't know how to use it. Same trouble can't see the thing.

Thanks for that. And while qt4 went Dodo bird watching, there are still apps built using it. I don't know if qt5ct affects those apps, nor do I know which apps these are. I assume all the popular stuff is now on QT5, but it's not something I've investigated.

I also can't read much of that, but the third box down is the font size. Looks like it's set at 18. Try 24 and see what happens would be my suggestion.
