Don't know where to report this: Both computers locking up with 20.0
I did fresh installs on both my tower and my laptop with the new Mint and they are up to date, but both freeze with mouse still working and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace doesn't work. Nothing on the OS works except the cursor moves. It doesn't respond to keyboard input. Both computers. There would appear to be a bug in the new version.
Tower is a home built Z97 Pro ASUS system with 32 GB RAM and a i5. The laptop is a Lenovo with I forget the processor, but 3rd gen i5 with 8 Gb RAM.
Straight fresh installs off of thumb drive from ISO.
Also, some usb error messages show and accumulate in the non gui window when using the computer after sleep.
Tell me how to help the devs look into this please.

Re: Don't know where to report this: Both computers locking up with 20.0
Did you verify the iso? You used this for both installations? -and verified the usb media after creation(or DVD)?
Or what are you doing on both pc's that is not default? -some program has been installed?
Does is only happen after a suspend cycle on both pc's?

also spotify installed.
Never had problems with tower before, but sometimes laptop had trouble booting so I cleaned my RAM slots and that seemed to help. What is happening now is very different, I do suspect the OS.

When you ran LM20 off the live usb you didn't have any issues? It was only after you installed that the issues showed up?

Both computers will run for a day before a problem.

Re: Don't know where to report this: Both computers locking up with 20.0
I didn't see where you answered zcot's question of "Does is only happen after a suspend cycle on both pc's?"
A couple of additional questions:
--What usb's do you have attached that might be throwing the errors you see on the "non-gui window" ?
--And I honestly don't know what you mean by "non-gui widow" as you must have your desktop set up differently than I do. Is there a particular theme or desktop setup you are using? (What you used in prior versions may or may not work with LM20.)
--Do you have any backups or other background processes that might be running and filling memory or drives?

Do you mean that the computer/laptop after a time locks the screen?

Re: Don't know where to report this: Both computers locking up with 20.0
sorry I didn't reply sooner, the hurricane killed my power here for a week.
The non GUI screen is the start up text screen during OS startup.
USB devices connected never caused problems before and the two computers don't use the same devices, the laptop only uses a wireless mouse and the tower only uses keyboard, mouse and usb headphones and webcam.
The freeze is where the screen won't respond to mouse clicks, but the cursor will move. Also the keyboard doesn't get a response and I have to hard cold restart computers, happens on both of them. One time the laptop screen went black, also.

You don't remove the 42 you install and try the 26,40.

On two different laptops, I ran into problems just like you describe when using Suspend, or Hibernate, or Sleep.
My solution, which has worked perfectly for me is to set each one of those to NEVER.
and Lid Closed to NOTHING.
that resolved all of my problems.
On the Laptop's power management, for Battery, Lid closed = Shutdown Immediately.
no more issues, at all.
On my big Gates Desktop in my office, I never do anything with it, just leave it running, and turn off the Monitor's Power.
it has been running that way for 12 years without any hiccups.

It happens while I'm using it too. The cursor will even still move but left button or right button won't do anything. Eventually the screen freezes and ctrl alt bkspc will take forever to go to start screen, sometimes I quit waiting.

This happens after you reboot the computer or after you might have suspended it?wutsinterweb wrote: ⤴Wed Aug 19, 2020 11:18 pm It happens while I'm using it too. I looked up the Logitech Wireless Mouse M325 (mentioned in your laptop info) and it says it runs off a unifying receiver. I've seen others posting on the forum they have had problems with resuming from suspend when using a Logitech unifying receiver. It's been a while since I read those threads so I don't recall if there were also problems before suspend or not. If you are using similar equipment for both the laptop and the desktop, then that might another common thread (in addition to the OS) between the two. That might also explain "usb error messages" you mention in your very first post.
