[SOLVED] Freezing PC requires hard boot, won't wake

OK, so I fixed the problem with the files and folders being sticky to open BUT now I have to do a hard shut down and reboot if my PC goes to sleep (Screen saver turns on and freezes) I've tried, enter & Esc. I'm going to turn off the screen saver that had been allowing me to wake without entering a password each time. I have no idea if or why updating the the driver for your NVIDIA graphics card would do this. Seems fixing one problem created another. Anybody got an idea what's going on here. Until today, every thing had been working perfectly! :( What if I rolled back recent updates? There were a slew of them on the 9th and the 10th. (Yesterday & the day before)

hey run the command as sudo would do the trick

The apostrophes weren't meant to be copied in this case.
You just redo but without the apostrophes.

(Whoever wrote that command line just wanted what's between the aposthropes to stand a little out.)

Update: mikaelrask has a good point about sudo. With sudo, without apostrophes, it would be:

You should do it with sudo, otherwise dpkg will just say it "requires superuser privilege" (which sudo will add to the mix).

The bash program is trying and failing to carry out a task based on communication it received from you, its current operator. The reason for the failure is that a communication mistake happened to tap into bash's way to correspond about files which have spaces in their names. That command line meant to communicate 3 separate things, as separated by the spaces. The wrap in apostrophes alters this communication to mean 1 thing that includes spaces. Leave out both apostrophes to clear up the misunderstanding.

I've written to cover this in more detail if you need it. I can also explain why these things work like this, just didn't want to take away time from fixing the wake up.

Yes I did "I'm guessing you must have copied" as a Newbie, I could not have known the apostrophes were not part of the code as they were pictured ithin what looked like a code box.

DANG!! When the system rebooted to the repair and asked for the new password, I could find no way to put it it. The cursor was not present and pressing enter just gave me a passwords don't match. I could not put in the required new password. Now I am stumped! Clearly, changes are required but danged if I can see how to proceed when typing a new password fails. CRIPES!! This is only a little frustrating. :? :(
I tried running the

again but it did not bring up a fresh attempt to run the process again, so not having been able to run the change with a new password suggests my system will be unstable.

What does it mean when terminal list has greyed out sections & what do the following segments mean for my system?

Freezing has appeared to stop for now but I'm worried because before rebooting for repair terminal message said if I failed to input the new password when required the repair would still be done but the system would be unstable. I was not able to enter said new password, the system would not take it.

hey again the problem is that you have secure boot on, i suggest you go into bios and disable secure boot. second boot into windows and disable fastboot aswell https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disa ... st-startup and then run the sudo dpkg --configure -a agian if it havet worked.

Is there a way to check the system's stability as per the warning from the terminal process. I know I can change the password in BIOS but that would not change how the changes were made via the terminal application.

Not every password prompt will register keystrokes. The cursor will not display entry...but don't worry, it's acknowledging the typing.
Just hit enter after your typing.

I knew that, I am not in the least concerned that the password keystrokes are not visible. My issue is the first run of the command DID engineer a box for a configuration change that did NOT work as it should have and it suggested I would be left with an unstable system. Things are not working as smoothly as they should and I am trying to get back to the place where the configuration went wrong after terminal rebooted to make the required changes.

AhHa! Thank You! Will do. As per the other issue, I think I'll just do a clean, fresh install of Mint. That is one sure fire way to get rid of errors and start over.
