going to "control center" "power managment" hangs my machine

Postby pawelsm » Mon Sep 28, 2009 9:20 am

Hi,

Problems appear when I tried to change the time after which screen saver starts. Tried it twice to change settings both times results in hard reset. My machine is asrock ion 330. Any suggestions ?

cheers,

Welcome to Mint
I think I have experienced this too, just about the only hangs in Mint except for Firefox and some oddities caused by experimenting
Unfortunately I did not find a solution so I'll add this to my list and come back to you after some more searching

Thanks for the answer I started to think I'm the only one plagued by this inconvenience.

I guess it should be possible to change screen-saver settings without using graphical interface. Any suggestion which file should by edited to change the time before screen-saver activation ?

cheers,

Pawel

Assuming you are using a gnome desktop (main/universal/64 bit editions) you can edit the screensaver preferences via gconf-editor.

Press Alt+F2 and type gconf-editor

In gconf-editor navigate to /apps/gnome-screensaver

To change the time before the screensaver comes on change the value of "idle_delay".

To change the type of screensaver between none ("blank-only"), normal ("single") and random ("random") edit "mode"

To change the screensaver used ("single" only) edit "themes". The value has the form of "screensavers-<screensaver_name>".
To find the names of your available screensavers open your file browser and navigate to "usr/lib/xscreensaver".
Alternatively you can list the names in the terminal with

Code: Select all

ls /usr/lib/xscreensaver

I think pluraldave has given the answer
After fiddling with this a think it may work "the normal way"
