Cant install chrome
Hi guys, chromium becomes buggier day by day, so I decided to download chrome from the official website. I chose 64 bit .deb (For Debian/Ubuntu) when I downloaded the package and opened it, it says this

Re: Cant install chrome
Are you using a 32bit version of mint? if so you'll need to install the 32bit version of chrome.
Re: Cant install chrome
There IS not 32 bit chrome anymore AFAIK.
I do suspect the machine is 32 bit. WHat 'bugs' are you talking about? chromium doesn't have the same level of support for some web standards that Chrome has.
Also paste some useful info, there's nothing to go on in the OP. Paste the text output of
inxi -Fxz
run in the terminal. If it's an old 32 bit machine running Mint 20 (esp. the Cinnamon version) then chromium may not be the issue.Re: Cant install chrome
Im doing front end development, and when i quickly switch from my code editor to html document most times chromium freezes and its giving me nuts! also its not as fast as it should be. i know i have pentium and 2gb ram but still, firefox didnt have any of these bugs.Hoser Rob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 9:36 amThere IS not 32 bit chrome anymore AFAIK.

Re: Cant install chrome
Chrome isn't available in 32 bit since v39, so you are correct, you cant install chrome.
Unless you find a real old version somewhere...
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Re: Cant install chrome
OK, you have a 64 bit CPU but you've installed 32 bit Mint on it, that's why you can't install chrome, which isn't supported in 32 bit anymore. And since they're not updating it anymore using an old version would make you VERY hackable.
Not sure if what you describe is really a chromium bug, it can really load up the RAM if you open a bunch of tabs.
You could try using firefox again or just installing 64 bit Mint. 32 bit Linux is going to disappear and it's not going to take that long.
