slow after latest update

Hi all,

after the latest update (only default values are active...i.e. level 1-2-3) my Mint 7 has become slower and this is quite noticeable when using firefox.

The update was about 3 days ago and since then everything is...delayed.

Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Do you mean the Internet response is slow or all applications (other than browser) being loaded are slow? Please be more specific with your question so we can help you.

I'd say that the internet response is slower...no problem under windows (the internet connection itself is not a problem)

I've discovered that with Mint it is possible to trace back the updates...but is there an "undo" function?

Could be FF that's being retarded. Try installing opera and see how that works.

i noticed recently that my browsing seemed sluggish
using firefox.i updated to the latest firefox (version 3.5.3)
and firefox runs much faster now.

if you use ubuntuzilla to update it will keep all your settings
and the linux mint branding will remain intact.

follow the directions exactly and you can update in a matter of minutes.

PulseAudio is also a network server.
Firefox has something inside to work with PulseAudio.
They fixed PulseAudio with that update, and you have to fix other apps yourselves, if you can.

EDIT:
I have Mint 7 installed on the ancient box (of 2001).
PulseAudio was removed, of course.

I just installed all the available updates and rebooted.
Really, all updates with apt-get !!!

Firefox works as before, incredibly fast for the old box.

I already had some problems with FF (slow scrolling) but apparently this is due to intel's driver...

It is not difficult to remove pulseaudio, but, in this case, the trouble was caused, perhaps,
by both PulseAudio and Mint Updater.

The driver might be a problem too.

I do not use that Mint Updater to avoid troubles.
I use "apt-get" instead.

You can make an experiment:

1. Install another Mint 7 in dual boot on the same box for experiments.

2. Remove PulseAudio, following this howto:

...just an update: after the last update, everything is much better! my glxgears increased to >1000 (intel card), FF is smoother and (don't know why...) the font rendering is nicer!

I would beware heeding the advice to remove Pulse Audio. You might want to read this link before doing that. User igorzwx has been taken to task for suggesting removing pulse for anything that seems odd. I actually had (have?) audio issues, but still was reluctant to heed that advice and reading that link from just this week am glad I did not.

I'm VERY satisfied with Mint--I haven't booted to Windows in over a month--and would trust Husse and DrHu on anything Mint.

[EDIT] I meant to add that the link is a problem regarding laptop keyboard not working after reboot, although a USB attached keyboard still worked. And igorzwx's recommendation was to remove Pulse Audio!

I have to mitigare my enthusiasm...streaming videos are better, but in full screen are still sluggish...in any case, apparently I should also shift towards the 64 bit version, hope things will be better (and faster!!) there!

I'm running 64bit. Same issues. I still would recommend that people migrate to 64bit though.
