Unable to use FreeMind

Post by vijay »

Hi,
I have installed freemind from package manager, but I am unable to run it. As soon as I open it, a window pops up and freezes. I get the following output in the terminal.

User properties found.
Default (System) Look & Feel: javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
Warning: the font you have set as standard - null - is not available.
[Freemind-Developer-Internal-Warning (do not write a bug report, please)]: Tried to get view without being able to get map module.

  • My check on java..based on that link
    sudo update-alternatives --config java
There is only 1 program which provides java
    (/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java). Nothing to configure.
Linux mint 7 (gloria) 32bit main edition (Gnome desktop) default installation
Freemind from the package manager (synaptic), version 0.7 runs fine here

And if i run it from a terminal, I get
  • User properties found.
Default (System) Look & Feel: com.sun.java.swing.plaf.gtk.GTKLookAndFeel
[Freemind-Developer-Internal-Warning (do not write a bug report, please)]: Tried to get view without being able to get map module.

And that, of course also runs fine (it worked on the desktop already..)
--note that I am using Sun Java, since that is required/suggested for OpenOffice as well as other applications, and it is better to use the standard, than something else..

There is another mind-mapping program called VYM (View your mind), but the Ubuntu archive seems to be having trouble fetching at the moment
