My Lenovo Yoga 2 11 keeps rebooting, can not shut down

Post by Hamburger73 »

After installing the Broadcom driver in the driver manager it has activated the secure boot in bios,
and the result is that a shut down is not possible anymore.
When I deactivate the secure boot,I have no wifi..!

Secure Boot is technology which prevents unauthorized software from installing on your computer. It sounds like may have had Secure Boot turned on when you installed Mint. Mint/Ubuntu is set up to be authorized to work with Secure Boot. You do not have to do anything special during the install to make that happen.

However, when you add third party software, you do need to set up keys so your computer knows the third party software is "safe" to install. Broadcom is third party software. If you received a message after installing it that keys were necessary, that means Secure Boot was on when you installed Mint and when you installed Broadcom. Broadcom did not turn that on.

I am not sure why installing the Broadcom software would affect your ability to shut down. I have Broadcom drivers installed and do not have that issue, but mine is a different driver. (I also had wireless without using that driver, but my wireless seems more stable with it.)

I suggest removing the Broadcom driver and then reinstalling it making sure Secure Boot is turned off before you install it. Maybe that will help.
