Fresh installation

Post by Gouki »

Hello, first time using linux, fresh installation today.
I can't get wifi dongle and sound to work,i have xonar dgx sound card with headphones connected to it, i updated the system, i used the terminal to install drivers and everything, i tried using Ndiswrapper to install windows drivers for the wifi dongle that worked on windows but the dongle just isn't blinking or working and nothing helps. The model is Air live wn-370usb, from the driver download online its 8192su, but on the system info it says RTL8188SU, if that helps any...

Im going to try and disable safe boot tonight, if it's not already disabled. next i was thinking blacklisting my current driver... and try another, any other ideas? But for the no sound i have no idea what to do
edit: id hate to make a new topic for this quick question, but how would i unnistall the driver that i installed with Ndiswrapper
, if all else fails , ill just get a new Usb dongle and avoid airlive.
Thanks for reading and cheers!

You have 3 audio devices. I guess they are: onboard sound chip from the motherboard, sound card, and GPU's HDMI output.
Try disabling the onboard sound from your BIOS. Not sure about the GPU. Maybe switch to the sound card in Sound settings?

You installed drivers for the sound card? Normally you don't have to do that, I had the same kind of sound card before and it worked out of the box. Maybe the driver is the issue?

Where do you plug-in your headphones? Front-panel jack or directly to the sound card behind the PC? If it's the front panel, is the sound card correctly connected to the front panel with the cable?

i have a sound card sound and i guess intrgrated gpu sound , and a monitor sound(hdmi), i didnt install any drivers but i suspect secure boot might be the issue, im not sure if its on or not tho ill have to check,
its connected in the back to the green jack, directly to the sound card. i tries changing settings in the sound , the monitor sound works fine.
when i turn off secure boot, do i have to reinstall mint?
