When I boot my new Acer Aspire 5 laptop, entering the password gives me a black screen and then returns me to the password prompt. It only gives an error message if I enter the wrong password.
The 256GB SSD was sending error messages that it was nearly full, and I'd like to try getting rid of some files. I hope to be able to do that in recovery mode.
I want to try recovery mode but I can't get the GRUB menu to appear. I've tried F2 and F12. No joy.
Can someone tell me what key(s) to use for GRUB at boot?
Thanks for your help.

F12 should get you to the BIOS menu in a Acer Aspire 5.
Esc should get you a grub menu.
But, you might want to consider putting your install Mint disk/USB in the machine & then running that in live mode to tidy up your installation & remove files.

The key is <Shift>.wayfarer51 wrote: ⤴Tue May 11, 2021 8:04 pm I want to try recovery mode but I can't get the GRUB menu to appear. I've tried F2 and F12. No joy.
Keep the key pressed right after "POST", or during.

Yep, Left Shift in fact. Does anyone know if Right Shift works too?
