Main monitor not displaying

Post by Dr33 »

Good Morning.
I have now installed linux cinnamon as a dual boot on a disk partition.
The main monitor is not showing, but I think it is connected as you can see from the images.
Only if I turn off the main monitor (it is only possible to do this while not in linux, that is, before entering linux) is it possible to check the panels on the right monitor.
What should I do?

Obviously I've been researching and the solutions I found, like installing nvidia drivers or changing grub file, for example, didn't work.

How would we know if that might even apply if you do not give us the information requested in Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help!?

Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.

Sorry guys. I didn’t put this point because I can only run the terminal with the monitor off so I thought it wouldn’t make sense.
The monitor on the left is connected buy HDMI, the mid and the right one is connected by DisplayPort.
I run the code below with the monitor off.

What makes you think it is connected? What criteria are you using to say that? Remember that we are not there, so the more description you can give us, the more likely we can help you.

I do not understand what this means. Why do you say it is not possible to turn off the main monitor while is Mint? Do all three screens go black if you do that? Is the only way for the two outer screens to display an image is when you turn off the middle monitor before booting Mint?
Dr33 wrote: Thu May 13, 2021 11:04 amI didn’t put this point because I can only run the terminal with the monitor off so I thought it wouldn’t make sense.
When you ran the live session of Mint to test it before you installed, were you able to see images on all three screens?
I am not clear what "I can only run the terminal with the monitor off" means.

Is this the latest BIOS/UEFI available for your motherboard?

Code: Select all

Machine:
Type: Desktop Mobo: MSI model: Z270 GAMING PRO CARBON (MS-7A63) v: 1.0
 serial: <filter> UEFI: American Megatrends v: 1.40 date: 03/31/2017
The below data is showing two monitors. The Mesa value shown is not the latest one supported in Mint, but I'm not sure if that is because you are using the nouveau driver or because your system does not have all the update. Usually, people get more options and better results when using the Nvidia driver. Which Nvidia driver did you try?
Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP106 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] vendor: ASUSTeK
driver: nouveau v: kernel bus ID: 01:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1c03
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa
resolution: 3840x2160~60Hz, 1920x1080~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: NV136 v: 4.3 Mesa 20.0.8 direct render: Yes

Just an FYI: This is an extremely small Mint installation. Normally, we recommend a root partition of 30-50GB when there is a separate home partition. Your system is on the smaller side of this recommendation with no additional home partition.
Partition:
ID-1: / size: 34.52 GiB used: 8.87 GiB (25.7%) fs: ext4 dev: /dev/sda7

I updated the Nvidia drivers and now the main monitor is the only one that works and is recognized, the other monitors do not appear when I put the command "inxi -Fxxxrz". The monitor that works have a bad resolution and it was not possible to change it through the "dysplays" menu.

That sounds like the Nvidia driver files may not have loaded before X Server did.

In that type of situation, try doing Ctl-Alt-Backspace to restart the X Server. If that works, then a more permanent solution is to do the change in this post [SOLVED] NVIDIA driver failing sometimes on boot ("no hardware acceleration"). Let us know if the fix roblm recommends in the second post addresses the issue for you.
