Since it's my first post, I'll add a bit of context.
1/ I'm french and I'll make my best to make me understandable
2/ I'm quite new to GNU/Linux. I used to have Solus installed on a cheap laptop since a few years, for bureatic purposes (mail/web/writing/playing Homm2), but I wanted to try something "bigger" such as Linux Mint, to understand a bit more how GNU/linux environements work. I tried Ubuntu but I'm not really into it, I find Mint more familiar.
I bought a good focused-writing app, Write! https://writeapp.co/ that is Windows/MacOS/Linux compatible.
For Linux, it's an appimage. I managed to make it work on Solus (even if there wasn't the correct icon in the taskbar but I rolled with it), but for strange reasons, it doesn't work on Mint.
On the website, I get "Write-v1806280-x64", labeled as a program. It's said that we just have to right clic > properties > make it executable.
The problem is, it just vanished as soon as I double clic on it.
I dragged the file (after making it executable (by using GIU or chmod)) into a terminal I opened in the directory, and I got more details.
Code: Select all
nico@nicolas-mint:~/Documents$ '/home/nico/Documents/Write-v1806280-x64'
destination dir path: "/home/nico/.Write"
destination bundle path: "/home/nico/.Write/RunWrite"
current bundle path: "/home/nico/.Write"
bundle name: "RunWrite"
app name: "Write"
Is already installed: false
/home/nico/Documents/Write-v1806280-x64: symbol lookup error: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var
nico@nicolas-mint:~/Documents$
I got a lead by reading that deleting libfreetype.so.6 in the appimage could fix the problem, but after mounting the program (that what happens when I double clic the write-v1806280-x64 without making it executable), I can browse the files but not deleting one. Even with root permission. I can't extract anything.
I'm fairly new, as I said before, so I didn't get deeper into "how appimage files work and how can we play with it" since I only use it for this specific application.
I made a multiboot USB flashdrive and ran some tests with the same file but from different OS, it shows the same error with Ubuntu, same goes for Linux Mate (I'm on Cinammon), but it appears to work with ElementaryOS... which don't really like and don't intend to keep using.
I didn't have any answers from the developpers yet, and I won't expect too much this they don't seem to support Write! anymore since 2018/2019...
Do you have any ideas ?
Thanks for your reading and your help and have a good day !
