Restore lost panel / panel ITEMS

Post by Vilsen »

How to restore lost panel / panel ITEMS in MATE?

I was tired and made a new panel which was then removed. I pressed the buttons
and when asked if I wanted to remove the panel,
I answered: YES and then not only the one I made new
but the old one that would remain.

The disaster was a fact !

Is there any way to restore the one I had in the original?
I mean : the items I had there ?

I still have the disk there from which I cloned the disk I am running on now
so the original is still untouched - can I somehow find the information
there in some text file and retrieve that information and
put it in the correct text file here and thus restore everything?

I had to do it manually .

It took a while but I managed to do it.

One tip if someone is interested:

If you want shortcuts to a certain webadress:

Open that particular adress in Firefox and then in the adressfield : drag the
small "padlock" to the PANEL and drop it there. Then rightclick on
that item and cĺick on the picture to the left in properties and choose
a picture that suits that particular website.

Anyway: I wonder: Is there any smart program with which one could
handle and manage the panels ?

I don't understand your firefox part but anyway...
This is how you can save and restore panels in MATE:

backup:
dconf dump /org/mate/panel/ > panel-setting-backup
restore:
dconf load /org/mate/panel/ < panel-setting-backup
Linux Mint 20.1 MATE

You see, this is what I highly appreciate with you people that KNOW things !

This is what I should have done ! BEFORE the crash , of course.

But now I know if it happens again:

I did succeed in making the panel as it was by hand but I also
mad 2 new that comes out from the left and the right
but now I dont know how to get rid of them because
that is what made everything disappear last time .

I made them smaller so I cant get "in to them" and make
changes.

I dont know the english words for what Im trying to describe; I hope
you understand even though.

SO: dconf dump /org/mate/panel/ > panel-setting-backup +
dconf load /org/mate/panel/ < panel-setting-backup

IS GREAT ! BUT: It would be even better if we had a program in which we
could manipulate everithing better and also
perhaps do MORE with the LAUNCH PANELS.

I like it a lot !

To describe shortcuts in Firefox directly from
Launch Panels:

I have som "places" I go every day: My bank , my email (GMAIL) , My photoshop, Weather, apartments,

LINUX MINT FORUM etc osv

and I first open that website in the login-position
then

I puy the mouse-pointer to the left on the webadressline: there is a LOCK
and I get it and drag it up to my LAUNCH PANEL .

The I put an app

ropriate picture to that LAUNCHER.
