Static Resolution on Remote Desktop w/ Video Card but no Monitor (VNC)

Post by Jator »

Setup my new server and getting ready to put it into the closet. Since I can ssh and VNC into the machine, I will forgo the monitor, but one item I'd like to address before putting it in there is how to make the screen resolution a specific resolution so when I VNC in, I don't get 640x480 or 800x600? I searched through the forum but this was the closest I could come up with a similar question and it wasn't answered:

Re: Static Resolution on Remote Desktop w/ Video Card but no Monitor (VNC)

Used computer ( client ) <-- --> ( server ) Computer used from the Internet

I'm not sure because I haven't used it for a long time.
- On "server" you need have running desktop environment in the specified resolution.
Then you can configure the VNC.
- Check VNC documentation " man vnc " https://linux.die.net/man/1/vncserver
Or documentation of app which you use with VNC.
There I see "-geometry widthxheight" option
Maybe this will tell you something https://stackoverflow.com/questions/158 ... n-in-linux

Off topic.
Tutorial how setup VNC tunnel via ssh. Because VNC is not encrypted, ssh is encrypted.
INFO: VNC will only work with ssh. Therefore, it is possible that you will want to automate this process.
