[solved]GPU seems not swiching
So, I have installed Linux Mint 20.1 XFCE on my gaming laptop. Nvidia drivers installed succefuly, even it shows nvidia logo on taskbar, but when I opened a game it ran at terrible framerate(the game is L. A. Noire, from steam, using proton experimental) and firstly I thought that it's usual to get bad performance on linux, but the poor performance occurred even on native games. So I dug into Nvidia settings I found that no matter what I do, GPU utilization is 0%, vram usage is 5mb. Something seems wrong here. Nothing works at all, tried switching GPUs through terminal, tried googleing and and doing stuff that was there: no success.

Re: GPU seems not swiching
Is there any reason you are using the unsupported 5.12.0 kernel?
If you have found the solution to your initial post, please open your original post, click on the pencil, and add (Solved) to the Subject, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

Have a look through the official GPU section i linked above (yes it is not obviously easy to find for a newcomer) and see if any of the topics there help you.

Laptop overheating? Check link here:itsfoss guide . Also a move from Cinnamon to XFCE can give a -5 to -10 degrees C change on overheating hardware.

Re: GPU seems not swiching
Is this nvidia logo on the taskbar the nvidia-prime-applet?
I ask because the data you posted appears to indicate your system is running in On-Demand mode. Both the display drivers for Nvidia and Intel are showing and the renderer is listed as Intel.

I suggest you remove the 5.12 liquorix kernel (not supported in Mint and I'm not sure Nvidia supports it yet either) and use the 5.8 kernel which is available in Update Manager. Let us know if you need instructions on how to switch to the 5.8 kernel. (If, for some reason, you need to be using a kernel newer than 5.8, the 5.10-oem kernel is available in Synaptic Package Manager.)
The problem may be that the Nvidia modules may not be building properly with the kernel you are using.

Re: GPU seems not swiching
It could be. I saw a video where this kernel was installed on Mint, so I don't know. I know how to switch kernels, I will try it tomorrow and post an update
Re: GPU seems not swiching
No, it says performance mode. I have tried on demand mode, but it didn't work either. Now I will try to switch kernelI ask because the data you posted appears to indicate your system is running in On-Demand mode.
Re: GPU seems not swiching
So I have tried to change kernel, but it didn't worked, tried trough update manager, tried manually, but it didn't booted into new kernel, even grub didn't saw those kernels. So I tried to remove liquirix kernel and it still boots into liquirix, but now I don't have wireless internet connection, and I don't have enthernet at home. So I don't know what to do
Re: GPU seems not swiching
So, I have broken the OS and reinstalled, but the same problem occurs, only now from nvidia settings I see only this https://imgur.com/hmblg90.png
Re: GPU seems not swiching
Please provide an updated
inxi -Fxxxrz
and the output of dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia

Re: GPU seems not swiching
Your system is now rendering with Nvidia. Maybe you rebooted the computer. Doing that helps to make the change happen when switching.
