No sound input (microphone) - Dell XPS 17 9700

Post by FancyPantsNA »

Hi to everyone who will read this topic, I'm new to forums and relatively new to working with linux mint.

So I recently bought a Dell XPS 17 9700 laptop for work and installed Mint 20.1 in dual boot mode alongside windows on it. I've installed 20.04 oem linux firmware on 5.10 kernel. My sound output works perfectly, however, I can't use the microphone as it's not recognized by the OS.

As shown on the screenshots, no input device is detected in PulseAudio Volume Control, and I can't do anything with Soundwire microphones in the settings (the volume knob is locked).

Here is the output of *pacmd list-cards* :

Here is my kernel version:

For whatever reason, the bluetooth microphone on my Sony WH1000X-M3 works BUT everyone including me sound like a robot (sound very distorted) so it's unuseable for remote work video calls.

Thanks in advance to anyone who will be able to help me, that is extremely appreciated as this is my work computer so I desperately need the mic audio to work. :)

I just found this when searching:

It was a quick search online to find it — hint, hint. Hope it helps!
