It looks like the "missing" libraries are there, but only in the amd64 version. For example:
~$ sudo dpkg -l libgl1-mesa-dri
||/ Name Version Architecture Description
+++-=====================-=======================-============-====================================================
ii libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 20.2.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules
Maybe Ubuntu dropped the 386 libraries from its repositories? Anyway, I don't know how to solve it, so I'll try the flatpak version of Steam.

Re: Steam won't run
Try:
sudo apt-get install -f
to resolve dependencies issues; it may uninstall Steam if it cannot be resolved, however. Did you install Steam from the standard repositories or did you go on Valve's Steam website to get it? On my system, I have Steam in the standard repositories. To clarify, Reddog1 means:
Code: Select all
sudo apt install libc.so.6:i386
I'm also Terminalforlife on GitHub.
Re: Steam won't run
I have the exact same problem as cecilieaux. Tried everyone's suggestions. No joy. I also have an AMD processor, an A8-3850
"You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:

sigh. I tried installing Steam package from Steam.

Re: Steam won't run [I GIVE UP]
I was a little bit impressed to know this case from another forum of Linux Mint in Facebook.
Especially considering that I am currently installed and play Steam without problems.
The issue about the missing 32 library seems something not new and I want to share this youtube video with the hope it will help some of you with this case.
I installed steam from the software manager of Linux Mint and the available package is Steam:i386
Best regards and have fun.

You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:
libc.so.6
Na...install steam using Software Manager. It has NEVER failed me throughout Mint versions 17's ( as in 17, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 18, 18.1 etc etc) 18's, 19's and so far in the 20's. It automatically installs all the needed dependencies. If all else has failed you ... sjipp ... nuke every Steam file and then do it via Software Manager.sigh. I tried installing Steam package from Steam

I can only follow the feedback of motoryzen....I am really just summarizing some points that seem to me relevant to this problem. I don't have a solution and I don't think I would be able to find one.motoryzen wrote: ⤴Sat Oct 16, 2021 8:39 pmYou are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:

1. On another Forum on Facebook, persons that realizing this problem are trying to solve it, installing Steam version nr. 1:1.0.0.72 on a machine with LM 20.2.
2. I think They are using ppa:Steam for Ubuntu from Ubuntuupdates.org.
3. WARNING: not all machines with LM 20.2 installed have this problem. In fact I have several machines with Steam installed from the program manager operating without any issues. It is evident that this problem is not a general one, but quite specific. The package installed on my machines is:
Package Steam:i386
Version 1:1.0.0.61-2ubuntu3
Size 4,5 MB.
4. In case that after a new installation of LM20.2 and an installation of the Steam version using the program Manager, as mentioned in the previous point, the application would still present the same error then, I think the problem of the missing 32 librery would not be in the related SW, but in the combination of the HW of the machine in question .... unless:
5. someone can give more references of the version for Steam nr 1:1.1.0.0.72 in relation to LM20.2 that some people are trying to use?.
Greetings.
J.-L.

Re: Steam won't run [I GIVE UP]
Deleted Steam. Reinstalled from the Software Manager (Mint's repos), IT WORKS on my desktop.

No offense, but chances are a mod here will end up telling you to start your own thread about your steam problem. Reasons?arcsine_ wrote: ⤴Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:11 pm I am also having issues getting steam to run.

1. The mods/admin(s) here don't like thread hijacking. It can created a lot of confusion. They prefer to stick to helping one person at a time per thread to keep it simple.
2. There is no guarantee that your exact steam problem AND your machine both in terms of hardware and software/settings are the same as the OP. Thus the resolution that ends up successfully helping the OP might not be the same as the one needed for your case. *shrugs*. It's just the nature of the computing world sometimes.
