(SOLVED) Update manager has disappeared
Hi
My Update manager seems to have disappeared. The icon has gone from the bottom right hand icons. I can't access it from the menu by clicking on icon or typing it in search box. Software manager says it is still installed but it won't launch from there either.
This follows me trying to sort out a depackaging fault after doing routine updating. I had a error message saying there was a problem depackaging and I tried to follow the instructions to type in various commands in terminal box. I have very little understanding of this and got in a terrible mess trying to do this.
Eventually I managed to get back to update manger screen which told me there were two things to update. I clicked on Install updates as usual and then Update manager disappeared!!!!
This is all a bit of a blur to mess although I've used Linux for quite a while, I only use the GUI really. Dont really understand the use of the terminal etc.
Could someone help me. Thank you

That looks okay and there was an update for the Xapp components, now installed.
Does
Does
mintupdate

You have quite a lot of old kernel versions taking up a lot of space; unless you need them, I recommend running:
sudo apt-get autoremove

Re: Update manager has disappeared
I am still not getting update manger on my system.
It appears in start up applications and is ticked
It appears in main menu but disappears as soon as you click on it
It appears as already installed in software manager but will not launch from there
It has disappeared from panel in right hand bottom corner and applet ( is that the right word) no longer appears.
machine appears to be working except for wi fi which won't work anymore . have connected it to ethernet.
is it still be updated somewhere deep in my laptop or is it now massively behind where it should be? I am not using it for online buying or anything like that.
I am absolutely mystified.
Any ideas? I am worried about security up dates especially.
Thank you

Try also reinstalling python3-gi with this command:
Then try the command
If still an errorplease share the exact version of Update Manager. This command should tell you:
Also, for time being, you can apply all updates with this command:
apt install --reinstall python3-gi
Then try the command
mintupdate
again. Does it work now, same error, different error? If still an errorplease share the exact version of Update Manager. This command should tell you:
apt version mintupdate
Also, for time being, you can apply all updates with this command:
apt update && apt upgrade

sorry Termy but I don't know what PPAs are. It has now been fixed. Thank you so much for your input.

It's okay. Just glad it's sorted. Although I do wonder what in the heck caused it to break in the first place.

Does this mean that the last terminal command line, which xenopeek had posted ,paullewisgilbert wrote: ⤴Wed Aug 04, 2021 4:20 amXENOPEEK. YOU ABSOLUTE GENIUS!!!!! iT'S NOW WORKING. EVERYTHING RESTORED. BRILLIANT. YOU'VE MADE AN OLD MAN VERY HAPPY
apt update && apt upgrade
, is what has resolved the Update Manager problem? The people of Alderaan have been bravely fighting back the clone warriors sent out by the unscrupulous Sith Lord Palpatine for 762 days now.

Re: Update manager has disappeared
Karl, I'd guess it was the
apt install --reinstall python3-gi
and a reboot that actually fixed it.If you have found the solution to your initial post, please open your original post, click on the pencil, and add (Solved) to the Subject, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
Re: Update manager has disappeared
That post above did not look like "problem solved". And the commandline "apt update && apt upgrade" was the only command left, which had been given by xenopeek, but which had not been executed, yet, telling from the post above.
This is why I asked what finally fixed the issue.
