geany and underscore

Post by MooseOnTheLoose »

Yikes! :( :( :(
I installed geany from the Mint repository.
If I open it and type the "_" character, I see " " on the display.
It is like the font is messed up because I also see " " if I paste the "_" in.

Is there another version I can try?

I believe that this is a known problem with Geany. The workaround seems to be try a different (larger) font size, or change the font to something like Liberation Mono Regular. You can modify the font via Edit -> Preferences -> Interface, then play with the Editor font settings until the underscore is visible.

I install Geany ver 1.32 from the LM 19.3 Software Manager long ago and I use it almost every day. Underbars show up fine. I have no plugins installed. I might have set this up for Perl, but that is probably all I have done to it.

:D :D :D :D
I hit on the same work around before I saw your comment
It seems that the monospace font is wrong
:) :)
I am now at the point of typing in a few thousand lines more source code for this little project I am working on

I've seen this issue with Hexchat, and they traced it to an issue in the pango package: https://github.com/hexchat/hexchat/issues/2449

I chased the trail at some point and only ended up at a number of work-around options though.

Maybe geany has a better workaround than changing fonts, Hexchat ended up doing a patch to account for it.

I've found that Todd's information works for me. I've increased the font size to 16 - works. Nothing less seems to work.
